ADVANCED PLACEMENT CALCULUS

WHEN: Meets on Mondays 4:00 – 7:00

Welcome to our newest addition to our ever expanding AP department. Katinka has been teaching Math for EIE for some time now and brings her experience as a college instructor to this class. This class, based upon passing the AP Exam, is equivalent to a semester class of college Calculus. Calculus is often thought of as the apex of high school math but it is actually the door that opens the student to a new world of mathematics that allows us to truly explore nature. This class covers Functions, Graphs, Limits, Differential Calculus (techniques and applications) and integral Calculus preparing the student for the AP Calculus exam.

PREREQUISITE: Calculus.
COST: $475.00 per semester.(This figure may drop if enough students register.)
Textbook: Unknown at this time.
Material Fee of $15.00
Exam Fee: $80.00.
CONTACT: Katinka at (626) 798-9657

Homeschooling parents can ignore what are for the most part government directives as to what shall be taught and when. Rather, parents and children can work together to develop courses of study that address long-term needs, interests, and capabilities in the context of what they, and not a bureaucracy of somewhat dubious credibility, deem important and necessary.
-David and Micki Colfax, "Homeschooling for Excellence"

We have reached a place in the history of Western Culture where we've got to raise children to be prepared for a situation which is no longer sharply defined in terms of functions and tasks. We have got to raise children who can deal with the unknown.
- Daniel Greenberg, in "Child Rearing"

One of the most important effects of the study of a subject should be the development of a spirit of inquiry. The ability to ask real questions is more useful than the capacity to answer simple ones.
