{"id":902,"date":"2010-11-29T20:00:47","date_gmt":"2010-11-30T04:00:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.abacus-es.com\/journal\/?p=902"},"modified":"2010-11-29T21:04:04","modified_gmt":"2010-11-30T05:04:04","slug":"a-b-c-d-e-i","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.abacus-es.com\/journal\/verse\/a-b-c-d-e-i\/","title":{"rendered":"A B C D E I"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>West Potomac High School in Alexandria, Va., has stopped giving \u00e2\u20ac\u0153F\u00e2\u20ac\u009d grades, the Washington Post reports.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, the school all but eradicated the standard mark  for \u00e2\u20ac\u0153failure\u00e2\u20ac\u009d, instead supplying wayward students with the letter \u00e2\u20ac\u0153I\u00e2\u20ac\u009d  for incomplete.<\/p>\n<p><object classid=\"clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000\" width=\"250\" height=\"20\" codebase=\"http:\/\/download.macromedia.com\/pub\/shockwave\/cabs\/flash\/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0\"><param name=\"bgcolor\" value=\"#ffffff\" \/><param name=\"flashvars\" value=\"file=http:\/\/abacus-es.net\/share\/verse\/abcdei.mp3\" \/><param name=\"src\" value=\"http:\/\/abacus-es.net\/share\/show\/player.swf\" \/><embed type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" width=\"250\" height=\"20\" src=\"http:\/\/abacus-es.net\/share\/show\/player.swf\" flashvars=\"file=http:\/\/abacus-es.net\/share\/verse\/abcdei.mp3\" bgcolor=\"#ffffff\"><\/embed><\/object><\/p>\n<p>A B C D E  I<\/p>\n<p>By DDKK<\/p>\n<p>A Virginia High School found a way<br \/>\nTo do what all schools must today<br \/>\nBut oh! what did they find?<br \/>\nA question that you well may ask:<br \/>\nHow West Potomac faced the task<br \/>\nOf \u00e2\u20ac\u0153No Child Left Behind.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153What happens when a kid\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s too slow?<br \/>\nFor other schools would like to know<br \/>\nJust how they this requirement met.<br \/>\nThey hit upon a failsafe plan<br \/>\nUnique since highschools first began<br \/>\nThey dropped \u00e2\u20ac\u0153F\u00e2\u20ac\u009d from the alphabet.<\/p>\n<p>Why what a novel trick to play!<br \/>\nFor when there is no other way<br \/>\nThis tactic wins the prize.<br \/>\nFor once one fathoms what they\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve done<br \/>\nThis strategy is something one<br \/>\ncould elsewhere utilize.<\/p>\n<p>Those tasks we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve shunned and matters hated<br \/>\nCould forthwith be\u00c2\u00a0 eliminated!<br \/>\nThere can\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t be any doubt:<br \/>\nThe first example has to be<br \/>\nThat Mondays are a misery<br \/>\nWhich man could do without.<\/p>\n<p>Once we decide how we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122d prefer<br \/>\nTo modify the calendar<br \/>\nAnd likewise prune the alphabet<br \/>\nThen we can start on history<br \/>\nand end the awful mystery<br \/>\nof presidents we all forget.<\/p>\n<p>When Millard Fillmore\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s expurgated<br \/>\nAnd random others abrogated<br \/>\nThe universe comes next.<br \/>\nBut Pluto is already gone<br \/>\nThey\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve thwarted us and purged it on<br \/>\nSome flimsier pretext.<\/p>\n<p>So much of Greece and Rome\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s excised<br \/>\nFor sex that might have compromised<br \/>\nThe norms of Christendom<br \/>\nWhy teach us of the vapid arts?<br \/>\nAnd leave out all the juicy parts?<br \/>\nCut out the tedium!<\/p>\n<p>But then we find our scalpel dulled<br \/>\nFor sauropods have just been culled<br \/>\nAnd dinosauric lore.<br \/>\nThey\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve chosen to eradicate<br \/>\nAnd <em>ex post facto<\/em> deprecate<br \/>\nThe dear old <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Brontosaur\">brontosaur<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Selective trimmings have been made<br \/>\nto\u00c2\u00a0 imprecate and to evade<br \/>\nWhat dogmatists abhor.<br \/>\nSo why not make them serve the need<br \/>\nof those who struggle to succeed<br \/>\nWhen school is such a bore?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>West Potomac High School in Alexandria, Va., has stopped giving \u00e2\u20ac\u0153F\u00e2\u20ac\u009d grades, the Washington Post reports.
