Dear Scholars,

The recording of the class didn’t work last Thursday, so I recorded another:

  • Did you watch it?
  • Was it useful?
  • Should we do it again?

I have posted previous class recordings for download on my server. These are exe self-extracting flash media files. Just run them.

We didn’t get to discussion of parallelism in Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address. Perhaps this week.

Homework for this week was to read the essay “The Narcissism of the Small Difference” Please post thoughts.
The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy
Watch Fry’s address to the British Academy of Film and Television Arts and listen for parallel constructs. How many parallelisms can you count? Be sure to take vocabulary notes. The suggested subject for this week’s writing project is Science Fiction. This is only a suggestion. Other topics are also welcome. Please make sure to submit your projects by Tuesday midnight to give everyone a chance to review them before class. Please be sure to practice your parallel constructs.

I’m sure you’ve all watched this brief excerpt from The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. Do you want to see more of it?

Homework for next week read and listen to An Interview with Mark Twain by Rudyard Kipling. and comment upon it. Write an essay on a subject to be determined in class.
